For nearly all of the character's publication history Captain America was the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a sickly young man who was enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum in order to aid the United States war effort. Captain America wears a costume that bears an American flag motif, and is armed with an indestructible shield that can be thrown as a weapon.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "Costume based off the Stars & Stripes? LOL AMERIKKKA." It's nowhere near as bad as that - yes, Steve's a little old-fashioned, and he loves America, but it's more that that. He loves America for what it could be, for what it strives to be - in the positive sense. Hell, the current writer of Captain America's ongoing got into trouble for making fun of those Tea Party assholes! Not bad for a piece of US propaganda, huh?
